DISCOVER A WHOLE NEW YOU!

Semaglutide is a member of a class of drugs that have been used for diabetes management for over a decade – GLP1-RAs (glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists). The weight loss effects of these agents have been known for some time, however, Semaglutide appears to be the “best-in-class” GLP-1 RA for weight loss and was recently approved for weight loss by the FDA under the brand name Wegovy®.

How Is Semaglutide Administered ?

It is a once-weekly subcutaneous injection. While some of you may be afraid of injections, these are actually quite straightforward injections with a VERY SMALL needle into the abdominal area (like insulin injections). There are big advantages to the once-weekly dosing – you don’t have to remember your medications and the Semaglutide is working 24/7 suppressing your appetite without the stimulant effects of typical weight loss medication.

Semaglutide is given as a shot under the skin of your stomach, thighs, or upper arm. Use a different body area each time you give yourself a shot. Keep track of where you give each shot to make sure you rotate body areas.

How Does Semaglutide Work ?

Semaglutide mimics the effect of “feeling full” resulting in a decreased caloric intake. Semaglutide will delay gastric emptying by reducing glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. The delay in gastric emptying can reduce appetite, improve control of eating, and reduce food cravings.

Semaglutide is also known as GLP-1 and is a hormone (a natural chemical in the body) that is produced in the small intestine. It stimulates insulin secretion (which then allows cells to take up glucose) and inhibits glucagon secretion (which prevents more glucose from going into the bloodstream) to lower blood sugar levels.

Does Insurance Cover Semaglutide ?

Wegovy is an FDA approved once weekly injectable medication for weight loss. Unfortunately, because it was just approved by the FDA in the summer of 2021, Semaglutide is not covered by most Medicare and insurance plans, but manufacturer and pharmacy coupons can help offset the cost. It currently is very expensive (approx. $1300 a month).

However, Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy, can be compounded by a specialized pharmacy and shipped to your door.

I Can’t Afford That, Is there any other way ?

We have access to Semaglutide from a FDA Approved Compounding Pharmacy for on-going use. The cost of the Starter Program is $299.00 per month. THE PRICE INCLUDES GENERIC SEMAGLUTIDE

(Wegovy®), SYRINGES, ALCHOL SWABS. We DO NOT accept HSA Plans or Insurance.
